Now this is an interesting item with a question or two surrounding it when we aquired it. Who were J Elliot&sons, why do we have a GV1 stamp and what do the numbers mean.
In the late 1800's High Wycombe was the chair making capital of the world, turning out up to 5000 chairs per day, if you wanted a chair this was the place to go. John and James Elliot were one of the notable chair making factories of the day. The numbers? we still dont know and the GV1 stamp is likely to mean that this chair was once part of the George 6th household.
The chair back reaches a height of 84cm
